Patient Information: Martin, 40 years old, male 

 

1. Patient's Chief Complaint

- Prolonged sitting and standing at work resulting in back, shoulder, and neck pain 

- Has undergone Upper Extremity Surgery and still has mild limitation of motion 

- Desires non-pharmacologic therapy to relieve muscle tension and pain 

 

2. Diagnosis

2.1 TCM Diagnosis

- Evidence type: Stagnation of Qi and Blood, Meridian Blockage 

- Condition: Yang Deficiency (Mild Yang Deficiency) 

- Tongue: pale-purple tongue with thin white coating (Pale-purple tongue with thin white coating) 

- Pulse: Wiry and tight pulse 

 

2.2 Western Medical Perspective Possible Diagnosis: Pale purple tongue with thin white coating Pulse: Tight strings (Wiry and tight pulse) 

- Possible diagnosis: Chronic Muscular Strain, Post-surgical Adhesion. 

- Contraindications to screening: no skin breakdown, no severe osteoporosis, no acute inflammatory disease

 

3.1 Fire Dragon Cupping Therapy 

3.1 Fire Dragon Cupping Therapy Essential oils. 

- Essential Oil Recipe: 

  - Base Oil: Camellia Oil - moisturizes the skin and promotes blood circulation. 

  - Blended Essential Oils: 

    - Soreness Relief Formula (with Ginger Oil, Lavender, Peppermint)

       - Da Loom (BL11) - relieves shoulder and back stiffness 

       - Wind Gate (BL12), Lung Yu (BL13) - dispels wind and cold 

       - Great Vertebrae (GV14) - to pass Yang and relieve symptoms 

       - Shoulder center (SI15), Tianzong (SI11) - soothing pain in the shoulder blade 

       - Feng Chi (GB20) - improves neck tension 

       - Shoulder Sol (TE14) - to promote the flow of qi and blood in the upper limbs 

c. Scraping (Scraping/Gua Sha): Scraping with Gua Sha board at key acupoints to loosen fascial adhesions. 

d. Total Duration: 45 minutes 

4. Treatment Response. 

- Instant effect: 

  - Patient indicates Shoulder and back are obviously relaxed, and the soreness is reduced. 

  - Mild Sha appears on the skin, suggesting that qi and blood are unblocked. 

- Aftercare Advice: 

  - Avoid bathing for 24 hours (to prevent the invasion of cold and dampness) 

  - Avoid getting cold, especially the neck and shoulders 

  - Homecare Advice: 

    - Warm Compress - to promote localized blood circulation 

    - Gentle Stretching - to prevent muscle stiffness.
